(Barrel Sample) This is winemaker Michael Beaulac's first full vintage. Historically, the wine was sourced from Coombsville, but Beaulac plans to move away from this original source while incorporating fruit from Howell Mountain and Pritchard Hill. He prefers to blend early, typically around February, with the grapes optically sorted and fermented in stainless steel alongside portions fermented in new 500-litre puncheons. Pump-overs are performed in tanks. The oak regime has evolved, with the predominant use of Taransaud, Nadalie, and Boutes barrels, all roughly medium-plus toast, transitioning to medium-long with the 2024 vintage. The wine exhibits exceptionally pure blackberry and cherry fruit alongside spices at this early stage. The palate is medium-bodied, with assertive, fine-grained tannins that are powerful and infused with lovely floral notes and a compelling mineral tension. It is a magnificent effort—elegant and expressive. I will retaste upon bottling.
