The Animo Vineyard, planted to 6 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon vines on rocky, volcanic soils with red streaks of iron, sits at an elevation of 387 to 411 metres on Atlas Peak. Animo, meaning "soul" in Italian, is crafted by winemakers Sabrina Massola and Rob Mondavi, Jr. This 2022 blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Merlot was aged for up to 20 months in 40% new French oak. A genuinely compelling wine, it offers layers of blue-skin aromatics, red and black-toned fruits, and vanilla-scented Earl Grey tea, complemented by toasty oak. The palate unfolds with spiced plums, cherry pie, and raspberry compote—a panoply of ripe fruit flavours. Structured, powerful tannins add finesse, resolving beautifully on the lengthy finish, which reveals notes of ironstone minerality and thyme—a wine of remarkable complexity and elegance.
