Winemaker Luc Morlet’s 10.1 hectare property, acquired in 2015, lies within the Oakville AVA, with To Kalon Creek running through the estate. Morlet describes the low-vigour site as comprising 40–60% well-draining gravel soils planted to two-thirds Cabernet Sauvignon and one-third Cabernet Franc on Bale series soils, similar to those found in To Kalon. This wine will be distributed via La Place de Bordeaux. Bearing that unmistakable California ripeness and intensity, seamless and expressive, building in the glass with muddled blackberry fruits and wonderfully captivating Cabernet Franc spice that calls to mind a faint ‘foin de Crau’ character (dried hay). Supple tannins frame a core of deep, penetrating concentration, yet the wine remains energetic. There is a fleshy richness without heaviness or excessive creaminess, and good tension through the lingering finish.
