The 2019 Mount Eden Cabernet is a remarkably elegant wine, with feral finesse and mountain purity. Wild berries, and mint leaves, Santa Cruz Mountains garrigue and even a touch of wild anise. The palate shows real intensity, lifted, taut with notes of sauvage and spice. Pure early-season blackberries, chopped mint leaves and dried thyme. The Cabernet legacy is a long one here in the Santa Cruz Mountains. A planting at La Questa in the late 1890s, utilising source material from Margaux, contributed to the creation of the Mt Eden Cabernet blocks in the 1940s.
