This is something else. I mean something extraordinary. Owner Steve Alden had to battle birds and foxes and bears to keep them away from the fruit, which is grown on the lowest part of the property where there are cooler mornings. It has aln almost Chablis-like quality, or even a fabulous Saumur with a subtle wooly quality. THere's beeswax, with crunchy green apple and velvety riper apricot notes with a stark, mineral finish underscored by a firm spine of crisp acidity. Literally, one barrel of Chardonnay grapes from the Hog Pen Block, clone 548, very small clusters, from the Perli Vineyards estate. Aged for 16 months in French Oak. Just 264 bottles produced. Unfiltered. Grapes are planted around 1,350 feet in the Mendocino Ridge AVA.
