From the oldest block of the Teldeschi vineyard in Dry Creek Valley, planted in 1904, this is a field blend led by Zinfandel (around 78%, according to winemaker Joel Peterson) with Carignan and Alicante Bouschet. Peterson says he picks the Zinfandel slightly riper while the other varieties come in fresher, and this contrast brings a welcome balance. Generous aromas of red berries and dark cherries meet a touch of anise and a woodsy note. Medium- to full-bodied, with depth, fine but firm tannins, and a bright finish.
