This is one absolutely fabulous Zinfandel from the famous Bacigalupi Vineyard in the Russian River Valley, where vines are rooted in the region's famous Goldridge sandy loam soils (own-rooted, 33-year-old vines!) Grapes were picked early in the season, on 2 September, in 2022, just as the heat dome was settling in. Fermented with native yeasts in small open-top redwood fermenters and aged in French oak barrels, of which roughly one-third were new. Crafted by none other than Joel Peterson of Ravenswood and Joseph Swan fame. Fragrant red berry fruit mingles with elegant cedarwood nuances, rose petal, and rose stem, all shining on the medium-bodied palate, with juicy overripe strawberry, cherry, licorice, and dark chocolate, framed by fine-grained tannins and a saline-mineral finish.
