Rather than replicate the Napa norm of producing Sauvignon Blanc or Chardonnay, they figured redefining the potential for great California white wine would be in their experimental best interests. The 2021 California White Wine (Experiment No. W8.1) leverages sourcing from Napa to vineyards near Yosemite and the Sierra Foothills. It combines 18.15% Marsanne, 18.10% Grenache Blanc, 15.66% Sauvignon Blanc, 10.43% Viognier, 10.39% Vermentino, 9.67% Semillon, 6.61% Albarino, 6.40% Roussanne, and 4.59% Picpoul Blanc all to indulge their curiosity. The label is modelled after an old Dewey Decimal System library card in a nod to co-founder Dana Johnson’s background in Library Sciences. Incredibly fresh and bright, with lovely fruit richness and weight balanced by taut tension and energy. Intense aromas of ripe orchard fruits, lime zest, stony minerality, and nougat. Broad and expansive, medium-bodied, exhibiting intricate layers of pear and apple, lychee and kiwi, and dragon fruit with wildflowers and herbs on the finish.
