This Chardonnay falls into the category of richer wines from the Russian River Valley. It’s sourced from six different sites across the appellation and planted to a mix of clones, including Hudson-Wente, Hyde-Wente, 15, 72, Mt. Eden, Montrachet, 548, and Wente. On the nose, generous aromas of dried apple, ripe stone fruit, and toasted nuts. The wine sees sur lie aging with frequent bâtonnage and undergoes 100% malolactic fermentation before aging for 15 months in French oak barrels, 27% new. The result is a creamy mid-palate with deep flavours of lemon peel, ripe pear, and a hint of baking spice. It’s quite appealing, but definitely on the broader side of Sonoma Chardonnay.
