The Viognier, affectionately referred to as Aaron Pott’s “Pott of Gold”, is sourced from a block on the coolest, north-facing section of his vineyard, “Pott Art! Vineyard”, situated above an old-growth redwood forest. This unique site benefits from its cool microclimate, making it even cooler than the rest of the property. The wine is fermented and aged entirely in clay amphora, preserving its vibrant character. This Viognier is so vivid, so electric, and framed by a torrent of juicy acidity layered with white floral notes and vibrant orchard fruit character, along with notes of underripe white peach and apricot, with creamy apple and pear on the mid-centre, finishing with honeysuckle and saline minerality. The wine in 2024 is even brighter and crisper as compared to the 2023 vintage, with less oily richness and more focus, but with time this is going to unfurl with a host of complex flavours, so don’t be shy about holding onto some bottles for the longer haul.
