The ‘RX’ stands for prescription. Previously labelled as “Terroir Series,” this 2023 release marks the first vintage to carry the ‘RX’ designation. It is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon from the Revana estate in St Helena, blended with elements of single-vineyard lots for fine-tuning, along with smaller portions of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. This is the most widely distributed wine in the portfolio. The nose opens with fragrant blackberry and black cherry fruit, layered with heady cedarwood spice and nuances of blue fruit. Full-bodied on the palate, it shows dark blue and black fruit wrapped in graphite minerality, salted dark chocolate and fine-grained tannins that carry through to a lengthy, fruit-driven finish. The wine achieves a fine balance between fruit and fragrant oak spice, underpinned by good tannic structure and the freshness of a cool growing season. Vinification typically begins with a cold soak in stainless steel for up to five days with pumpovers, followed by fermentation over 10–15 days. The wine is pressed to barrel and aged for around 22 months, with 75–80% new French oak, before final blending near the end of ageing. Rose Ballantine began working with the portfolio in Oregon in 2021, expanded her role to Argentina and Revana in Napa by 2023, and was named winemaker in early 2025.
