Winemaker Arnaud Weyrich says it took nearly 20 years to decide to release a single-vineyard bottling under the Roederer Estate label. The wine was first released with the 2020 vintage, so this is the second vintage-dated release. Apple Alley, he explains, is a site devoted to letting Chardonnay shine, while Clark Road is firmly about Pinot Noir. This single-vineyard selection was partially fermented in cask (22%), with a small portion of reserve wine also aged in cask (3% from the 2018 vintage). The wine was disgorged in March 2025 after 36 months on the lees, with a dosage of 5 g/L. The mousse here is ultra-fine, creamy, and wonderfully broad, supporting vivid citrus and orchard fruit notes layered with salty sea-spray minerality and an underlying earthy intensity. The site’s south-facing exposure, with wind directly impacting the vines, delivers ample ripeness while preserving a focused citrus profile. Crushed almond and subtle vanilla notes carry through to the finish. Very lovely, and very delicious.
