100% Pinot Noir aged in 10 months French oak (30% new). Ritchie Alan, the winemaker, tasted Pinot Noir from all over California and settled on a plot of vines from Gary's Vineyard, an iconic site in the Santa Lucia Highlands of the Central Coast. This is a fragrant, creamy, wholly pleasing Pinot Noir with sweetly enticing aromas of candied Bing cherry, cardamom, clove, and toasted cedarwood. Each sip reveals fleshy cherry, plum, and strawberry fruits laced with clove and cinnamon bolstered by blood orange acidity and a host of baking spices. Firm, taut, and fine-grained tannins with excellent grip provide structure, and the finish is long and refreshing. What a tremendous effort from Rombauer, not to mention the first Pinot Noir the winery has ever produced.
