A true Petaluma Gap Pinot: dark, moody, yet incredibly aromatic. The 2022 Griffin’s Lair comes from a single block co-fermented from Pommard and Swan Pinot clones, with about 30% whole clusters and 25% new French oak. Only two barrels are made each year, with proceeds funding the Richard A. Ward Memorial Scholarship Program at UC Davis. Picked before the season heat, it shows remarkable purity for the vintage. Aromas of macerated berries, red cherries, tarragon, dust, and baking spice land on the palate over fine, chalky tannins. Nicely structured and graceful in the glass now, yet with plenty of years ahead.
