The 2008 Padrone is a wonderfully easy-drinking wine, showing sweet, black-tea–like tannins alongside notes of black truffle, soy, and umami richness. There’s a silky slipperiness to the texture that makes it highly approachable, yet it carries more structure than the 2007, which I tasted alongside it during this vertical of Padrone wines dating back to 1997. I’d suggest enjoying it now and over the next two to four years while it’s at its most graceful and supple.
