Borreo Ranch is a 10-hectare property up Soda Canyon Road in the Napa Valley AVA, sitting at about 140 metres elevation, with vines rooted in granite loamy soils. The Kerner, a cross between Riesling and Trollinger, is a variety typically grown in Alto Adige and Germany. Here, 0.6 hectares were planted in the early 2000s, with vines running along a shaded gully beside a stream. The grapes are picked at night, whole-cluster pressed, and cold-fermented in stainless steel, then aged on the lees in tank for approximately four months before bottling. This wine, made by Alison Rodriguez, who joined Silverado Vineyards in 2022, showcases bright aromatics of citrus, jasmine florals, and a hint of salty sea spray. Medium-bodied on the palate, it offers excellent weight and texture, with fleshy pear, apricot, white peach fruit notes, a touch of mango, and a lingering spice reminiscent of coriander cream.
