Fourth-generation vintner Steve Tonella describes the Sky and Vine label as a fresher, drier style focused on upfront drinking pleasure. Sourced from hand-farmed Sonoma vineyards in Alexander Valley—specifically from the Chalk Hill and Dry Creek areas—the grapes are fermented in stainless steel and aged for around 14 months in 50% new French oak with a medium toast. The barrels are from top cooperages, and while the oak influence is present, it’s beautifully integrated, lending a supple, complementary layer to the wine. Medium- to full-bodied on the palate, with fragrant savoury spices of sagebrush and dried lavender, the wine is built on a framework of fine-grained, firm tannins and balanced by refreshing acidity. Incredibly approachable now, yet structured to drink superbly over the next decade.
