Today owned by the Kopf family of US importer Kobrand, St Francis Winery was established in the 1970s by the late Joe Martin, who pulled out existing orchards in order to plant Sonoma Valley’s first Merlot vines. The winery became known for its ripe, oaky Bordeaux Style wines and old-vine Zinfandels. Today oak and ripeness have been dialled back, as this Cabernet Franc testifies. The blueberry, bay leaf, sandalwood, Asian spice and roasted green chilli pepper flavours are rich and captivating.
