Green olives, charred black fruit and dried tobacco on the nose, while the palate is classic, middle-weight Santa Barbara Syrah with a juicy, leathery, saline finish. I find this wine to be in a similar 'baby fat' phase to their estate Pinot Noir, which with a couple years time should integrate into a charming example of cool-climate Syrah. 2018 is the third vintage from The Joy Fantastic, a husband and wife collaboration between Peter Hunken and Amy Christine MW. It was kept with 20% of its stems during fermentation, and aged for 15 months in 300l French oak barrels.
