The 2023 Highest Beauty is a blend of 96.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3.5% Petit Verdot, its name drawn from the Greek meaning of To Kalon. Crafted by Tony Biagi, the fruit comes largely from the Monastery blocks within the To Kalon Vineyard owned by Robert Mondavi Winery, and is aged for 18-20 months in 100% new French oak. In 2023, it delivers a quintessentially Cabernet Sauvignon expression – blackberry, graphite and loamy earth. That pedigree is harmonised with the warmth of the Californian sun, yielding fruit that is precise, ripe and juicy, reminiscent of the first-pick of blackberries at a local farmers’ market. The graphite and wet slate minerality builds steadily in the glass, joined by layers of earthy nuance. Violet florals, a subtle umami undertone, and unsweetened cocoa powder unfold alongside a gentle minty freshness that underpins the wine’s elegance. Supremely poised, long and layered.
