Old Wente Clone Chardonnay from the famous Hyde Vineyard in Carneros, blended with Calera Clone—first introduced in 2019. Aged for 15 months in a mix of high-quality oak, 50% new, winemaker Jeff Ames notes that the percentage of Calera in the blend is increasing, and the pH has dropped below 3.4, contributing to the wine’s incredible freshness and balance. The 2022 vintage is a marvel, with superb richness and mid-palate intensity. The wine boasts remarkable density and staying power, layering creamy Meyer lemon, candied apricot, and honeycomb richness. Toasted coriander seeds, fresh and candied ginger aromatics, and quince-like depth build toward a firm spine of saline-acid tension. The finish is long and lingering, with a subtle parmesan rind note adding further complexity—a truly exceptional effort from Jeff Ames.
