Treacle and gingerbread cake nose, ripe figs and liquorice – immediately gourmand. The palate is more complex though: intriguing fruit flavours (damson, cassis) marry liquorice and bitter chocolate and are held together by firm Tannat tannins that don’t relent even on the finish, which is long and ultimately savoury. It's satisfying and complex then, starting with such overt and familiar aromas it takes the taster on a journey through a wilder, more savoury adventure. Youthful still, it has the acidity to ensure a continuation of its evolution and journey to a more mellow place. But drinking beautifully now nevertheless.
