Twomey's western-facing, warmer estate site in the Anderson Valley. Only two tiny blocks of 2.3 and 3.5 acres provide grapes for the Bearman Bend Vineyard Pinot Noir, and those two blocks are right next to a large pond on the property, which mitigates summertime highs and means the two sites are a bit cooler than the rest of the property. Heritage Mount Eden and Swan clones are rooted in these blocks, and the name Bearman means storyteller in Boontling, the language of the local Boonville, California residents. It's an incredibly pleasure-packed red, which is really quite dark and brooding on the nose, with candied Rainier cherry and dried floral notes with deep woodsy undertones. Black raspberry and black cherry fruit are pure and delineated, with smoke clove notes and blood orange acidity framed by lovely grippy tannins, which never overpower the palate but lend excellent structure and integrity to this supply-fruited red. The lingering finish brings out more savoury mineral nuances.
