Audace is French for courage and guts, which is required to plant the Ruby vineyard at 548 metres in the middle of nowhere on the rugged Sonoma side of the Mayacamas, just about a mile from the Napa county line. In 2023, under the direction of Jean Hoefliger, the vines turned out a medium-to-full bodied, perfectly ripe, sweet-paprika-spiced, red-fruited Cabernet framed by ultra fine tannins and a solid core of supple berry fruit. With a firm spine of juicy acidity, the wine is generous today, and capable of cellaring a good 15-20 years.
