This is a superb wine from Kirk Venge in 2023, and one collectors would do well to secure by the case load. Alluring from the bouquet through to the utterly delicious black-fruited and salted dark chocolate finish, this wine delivers plenty of power and intensity on both the nose and palate. Bold, inky dark fruit unfolds with richness and generosity, yet there is a lifted freshness that speaks clearly of the 2023 vintage. The tannins are precise, fine-grained and beautifully polished, forming a powerful structural backbone. This is one of the most powerful and structured wines from Venge in 2023. Part of the polish comes from ageing in one of Taransaud’s T5 barrels, which lends a refined vanilla bean note that lingers delicately throughout. Grapes were sourced from Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper and Somerston. Just four barrels were produced.
