Vice Verse's Platt Vineyard Pinot Noir is a blend of two clones (115 and 777), some fermented in open-top tanks, some in 40% new French oak barrels. It's a dense and muscular style of Pinot Noir, with finesse-driven aromatics and a beautiful florality that lifts from the glass, intermixed with brown baking spices and red volcanic minerals. Hints of savoury charcuterie and espresso beans also make appearances on the nose. Supple on the medium-bodied palate, with broad-shouldered and chewy tannins, it offers flavours of Bing cherry, apple skin, and sandalwood and a real sense of longevity, energy, and drive. While the fruit has a fabulous presence, it is not in the least overripe and achieves perfect harmony with this red's compact core. It will reward the patient in the way a great Gevrey-Chambertin will with time in the bottle. It is a remarkable feat from a terrific vineyard.
