A perennial fruit source for Williams Selyem, the Allen Vineyard has produced some of California's most complex and ageworthy Pinot Noirs. It is located a less than a kilometre from the Estate Vineyard, on similar soils and exposure but with slightly cooler temperatures. The 2018 shows a touch of reduction on the black-fruited, spice-driven nose, which is otherwise buttoned up tight. Angular and spongy in texture, the finish shows off textbook Russian River Valley flavours of cola and black cherry. Like its Estate neighbour, it needs time in the cellar to unwind and come into itself.
