The first vineyard-designated Pinot Noir in the Williams Selyem portfolio, Riverblock helped define the winery’s legacy. The original 1985 vintage, poured at the 1987 California State Fair, firmly established both the producer and the region on the map. Today’s bottling comes from vines planted in 1989 using cuttings from Rochioli’s revered West Block clone. Grown just a stone’s throw from the Russian River on alluvial soils, the vineyard was harvested ten days after neighbouring Allen Vineyard in 2022. In the glass, it shows a deep ruby colour and an expressive nose of ripe red and blue fruits, floral incense, citrus peel, and spiced tea. Aged 16 months in 64% new French oak, the palate exhibits an umami depth, complemented by a river stone minerality that extends through the finish. The tannins are firm yet finely textured, and the bright acidity keeps the wine lifted.
