Orange

This expressive, slightly mysterious wine opens with notes of marzipan, candle wax and quince paste. The texture is rich and waxy, but the feeling is clean, supple and impressively dense without being heavy. The 'orange wine' effect is noticeable but not forced. Fred Frank notes that Rkatsiteli is resistant to rot because of thick skins and loose, oblong bunches. Frank fermented this on the skins in amphorae for 11 days, punching down twice daily before ageing in a combination of amphora, concrete egg, and steel.
