2024 marks the first Pinot Noir produced by Hermann J. Wiemer since the 2019 vintage – and it was well worth the wait. Though it comes from young vines, the wine is inky, bold and full of expressive flavor, with notes of raspberry, blueberry, red cherry and forest floor, plus a lingering acidity. The fruit is hand-picked from Wiemer’s Julia Vineyard on the west side of Seneca Lake, and is hand-sorted as well. The wine sees 35% whole-cluster fermentation before aging in French and Hungarian oak for nine months. If you drink it soon after release, give it plenty of aeration (even decant it), but this can also wait in the cellar.
