The Chehalem Mountain Old Vine Pinot is the most structured and substantial of the 00 lineup. The 2021 vintage boasts compact aromas of mulberry and pomegranate, with hints of leather and wood smoke and sweet spice aromas from the oak ageing. The texture is dense and powerful, and the finish is impressively persistent. The grapes are from a 50-year-old own-rooted Coury clone Pinot, fermented as individual berries in amphorae and gently extracted before ageing 18 months in new French casks, yet the oak is not intrusive. This wine will open up in three to five years and age another 20 to 30 beyond this.
