I have loved the wines from Drouhin Oregon for years, and was thrilled to visit it in October during harvest. I was even more happy to coincide my visit with Veronique Drouhin. This is a special bottling that she refers to as the Musigny of Oregon, created each year from blending a few of her favourite barrels. Certainly, it is softly elegant - so much so that you can barely feel where one flavour ends and the next begins. Clear violet aromatics are joined by peonies, subtle tobacco and grilled red fruits, with white pepper spice and ripe figs. It has a beautiful soft frame with tannins that are already melted into the fruits, and yet cradle them perfectly. About 15 barrels of this are made each year, aged in 20% new oak.
