Lumos, located in Philomath, is the project of Dai Crisp, who spent 26 years as vineyard manager at the famed Temperance Hill Vineyard. He planted Sauvignon Blanc at his Wren Vineyard back in 1986, as ‘a big experiment’. The 2025 Sauvignon Blanc, made by son Boone McCoy-Crisp, has a subtle nose of ripe tropical fruit, with little overt grassiness or citrus. Barrel-fermented in neutral oak, the wine is round and mouth-filling on the palate, with nice notes of green apple and lemon and a wisp of struck match. A fantastic bottle for those who want to try a Sauvignon Blanc that doesn’t blast its Sauv Blanc-ness from the rooftops. Drink over the next five years.
