The Avellana Pinot Noir is the only one that Ponzi produced in the 2020 vintage, a year that saw much of the Willamette Valley marred by wildfire smoke. This wine was picked just before the wildfire smoke made its way into Sherwood, Oregon. It's a glimpse at what might have been with sweet blue fruit aromatics complemented by fresh violets and a touch of lavender. The Avellana Vineyard Pinot Noir is planted in Ponzi's ‘clonal massale’ approach, a field blend of 22 different clones. The palate shows crisply, with juicy acidity. There are sappy blackberry fruits, sweet cherry flesh and a spicy, savoury finish.
