The Prince Hill Pinot, from grapes growing in the Willamette Valley's Jory red soils, shows a nice balance of power and elegance in its robust, deeply dark fruit character, red dusty mineral spice, clove, and red florals, sumptuous middle-weight concentration with almost chocolatey, velvety-textured tannins, a good spine of zesty blood orange acidity, and an enticing finish. The Duncan family of Silver Oak is the owner, having purchased this historic Oregon vineyard, planted by pioneer Dick Erath. This single-vineyard Pinot Noir comes from the historic vineyard's blocks 1 and 4, with over 90% of it coming from the suitcase clone 95, which Dick Erath smuggled into the US from Burgundy's Clos de Vougeot.
