The TGV, like many of the Red Electric wines, is named for a famed train, sourced from the Armstrong Vineyard in the Ribbon Ridge appellation in the northern end of the Willamette Valley. Structured and built as an age-worthy Pinot Noir by winemaker John Grochau, who loves whole cluster fermentation, and here it’s at 30%. There are buoyant red berries and blood-orange freshness that vie for attention alongside savoury white pepper and saline seaspray notes on the nose. The palate is classic Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, red fruits and sous bois, fresh green herbs, and saline give a sense of umami framed by nicely placed tannin and spice.
