This red is from a 35-acre site called Uplift Vineyard, on the Llano Uplift plateau surrounded by mountains on ancient granitic soils in the Texas Hill Country AVA. 100% barrel fermentation, aged 18 months in 100% new French oak. A real mark of the vintage, with juicy acidity and bright red berry fruit nuanced by cassis, dried rose petals, and turned earth with dried tobacco nuances. Medium-bodied with mocha-tinged tannins, blood orange acidity, tart red berry fruit laced with sage notes, more dried rose petals, and grippy cedarwood spices. That excellent savoury quality is balanced by a zesty freshness that is bewildering for this region.
