Named for a famed wind gap in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the voluptuous fruit for this wine comes from an atypically low, flat site. Delaplane uses tight-grained barriques so the wine isn’t smothered with oak. While Merlot (50%) is dominant, the 27% of Cabernet Franc is the star: delicate and perfumed, like feather boas and face powder.
