Ben Smith does it again. In a growing season that broke heat records from the state's hottest appellation, Smith continues to coax elegance and balance from the fruit each vintage gives him. The 2021 Camerata is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% each of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Mineral-driven aromas of crushed stone and gravelly dust coat the notes of wild dark berry fruits and a smoky floral elegance from violets and dried lavender. The palate is savoury and delicate, though firmly structured and with plenty of concentration. Dark fruits meld with fresh red berries, white and black peppercorn, and a long finish that balances rich fruit, savoury herbs, and dark stone mineral tones. It's a beauty, as we've come to expect from Cadence.
