2008 started very slowly in Washington state due to a freezing winter, and the growing season was pretty slow and steady. Harvest dates were 10-14 days behind the average, but October was nearly perfect for ripening. The Tapteil vineyard is just down the road from Cadence's Cara Mia estate, and the results in 2008 were marvellous. There's a luxurious element to the wine that comes across in the dark fruited aromatics and the fleshy, textured palate. Crushed basalt aromas, smoke, and pencil lead give way to hot embers, blackberry compote, and espresso beans.
