98% Pinot from Breezy Slope vineyard, a high elevation (1,700 feet) site in the Walla Walla AVA beloved by area winemakers seeking fruit with lower tannins and higher acids, not commonly found in the valley below. A deep, cotton candy pink color – a playfully extracted hue from the addition of 2% Cab Franc – sets things up for the red fruit that dominates the nose: strawberries, currants, raspberries. Bready notes and strawberry swirl coffee cake chiefly on the palate, anchored by fine bubbles and a surprising yet pleasing richness (after just a year in bottle before disgorging). A pleasant finish, with a hint of strawberry cream.
