A wine of staggering complexity. From the Sky Down's Solaksen Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a southwest-facing slope in Royal Slope's Lawrence Vineyards. A single clone, 337 Cabernet, balances depth and finesse beautifully. Notes of coffee bean and eucalyptus desiccated violets stand upright from the glass. The palate is complex, layered and savoury in its core. Bay leaf and streaks of graphite arrest notes of dessert scrub, dried lavender and a core of red and blue fruits. This 100% Cabernet dances between medium and full-bodied, savoury and fruit. It's a stunning wine for this nascent brand, a collaboration between winemaker Todd Alexander and Bryan Otis.
