2015 was clearly a very good vintage in the Columbia Valley, and this is certainly a very fine Lagniappe from Gramercy. Since 2010 it has essentially become a single vineyard Syrah (planted originally by David Lake in 1983). It’s also 98% whole-cluster, fermented in concrete and then aged for eighteen months in 500l French puncheons with no fining or filtration. It's bright and youthful in colour, with an initially closed, dusty nose that yields peppery black fruit and floral aromas with some time in the glass. It's equally impressive on the palate, with attractive, classic sweet red and black fruits, a nice line of juicy acidity and lush, grainy, generous tannins. There are supplementary cracked pepper notes with minerals and savoury cured meats on the long finish.
