Winemaker Matt Austin was among a small handful of producers to popularize pétillant naturel in Washington State, and the few vintages he made of Lemberger, sourced from the certified sustainable Kiona vineyard on Red Mountain, attracted a cult following. If that wine was the bohemian first born who joined the Peace Corps, this orange wine (that Austin has produced once before) is the younger sibling who wants to one-up for mom and dad. Still grapey, cidery, and slightly hazy, this cuvée – after a year on its lees – offers richer, deeper notes of brioche, candied pear, and Turkish Delight. Or as Austin puts it, a 'wild and textural' character that seems to have ignited some sibling rivalry.
