Founded in 1987, Hedges Family Estate is one of Washington’s older producers. CMS is the entry-level label, so called because of the grape initials: Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot in the red, and here, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Marsanne (though it should be SCM, as Sauvignon dominates with 80%). It’s soft and lifted, with flavours of ripe pear, meadow flowers and tangy citrus notes. Easy, approachable and great value.
