WeatherEye Vineyard sits on the top ridgeline of the Red Mountain AVA at about 365m, primarily north-facing on a steep slope. The fractured basalt and sand soil is a low-nutrient elixir for grapevines and the vines are exposed to constant winds and extreme temperature fluctuations, with scrub brush and sage as their only companions. The Grenache is on a 0.3ha block of bush-trained vines at the top of the High Canyon area of WeatherEye. The wine is fermented with 25% whole clusters in concrete tanks and aged for 18 months in large French oak barrels. Jusden Aumand: Cool, black-fruited nose with a hint of honeycomb; very pure fruit; elegant yet powerful wine with long length. Zach Geballe: Green herbal and black cherry aromas, followed by boysenberry fruit and saffron spice on the palate. Amanda Reed: Strawberry and blackberry jam notes, with overripe Bing cherry, dried rosemary, lavender and green herbs. A medium body and a long finish.
