From the high elevation site on the Washington side of the Walla Walla Valley, Foothills in the Sun, seated at 1600ft in the foothills of the Blue Mountains, was planted in 2008. Winemaker Matt Reynvaan uses 25% whole cluster and ages this 100% Syrah in almost completely neutral French oak for 18 months. Aromatically dynamic, with creosote, green olive, fresh chopped parsley and a rich note of black plums. The palate is rich with sweet notes of Australian black liquorice, Moroccan ras el hanout and salty burnt meats. Towards the finish, these dark depths turn towards the light with a fresh salty minerality and brightened acidity.
