Elegant yet a little unbridled, like the wild horses that still occasionally roam through White Swan, and the storied Red Willow Vineyard. (Speaking of place, there are no willow trees at the vineyard – only sumac, which glows scarlet in the fall.) From its most photographed and steepest site, Chapel Block, the wine is modest in alcohol, but effusive of place: briny, with brilliant acidity, firm tannins and aromas of leather, mint, wet stone and raspberry. The winemaking encompasses a restrained use of wood (12 months in neutral French oak), native yeast fermentation, no filtering and 100% whole bunch fermentation.
