Yakima Valley

Red Willow Vineyard was the first in Washington, in 1986, planted with Syrah – it even has a chapel à la Hermitage and several bottles of Rhône are also buried there. Here, the Syrah shows a wonderfully vibrant expression, with pure dark raspberry, exotic spices and a savoury edge, like herb-encrusted roast lamb. The Dineen Vineyard Côt (Malbec) is another perfumed, low-alcohol wonder that scored well in our Wines of the Year.
