The preponderance of this Cabernet, the fourth flagship release from Trothe, comes from the old vine, 98 block, which sits atop a rise in the vineyard. All clone 8 Cabernet, with a whisper, or .5% of Petit Verdot blended in. The aromatics show the intensity of red fruits as currants and piquant blood oranges mingle with a subtlety of dried desert herbs and faint red florals. On the palate, this wine unspools an impressive complexity. Fully ripe black fruits embrace chicory root and herbal elements that roll along on the exquisite tannin; the finish lingers as notes of smoked sea salt and a hint of eucalyptus and peppercorn leave a lasting impression.
